Research Samples

I conduct musicological research through both scholarly institutions and the hobbyist living history group Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). My academic research interests include European Renaissance and early Baroque musical material cultures, printing and publication, and the mediation of identity through music.

Currently, I am pursuing my Masters in Music at Peabody Conservatory, where I am developing a thesis project that concerns the ways in which the sheet music printing industry of 16th century England shaped modern conceptions of Renaissance musical canon, with special attention given to exclusions from canon.

My musical research in the SCA is geared towards historical recreation and education. I am active in both the East Kingdom (Southern Region) and Atlantia under the pseudonym Merlin Silber.
